The Wedding That Hurricane Irene Just Couldn’t Touch
Kate is an Event Planner at the very posh A Catered Affair in Boston. As an alternative to the glamorous events she normally plans, she decided to have a relaxed country wedding. Kate and Chris were married this summer in the natural beauty of Riverside Farms in Pittsfield, Vermont.Does that town sound familiar at all? It was one of the hardest hit casualties of Hurricane Irene. Kate had one of the last weddings there before the devastating effects of the storm.
In the video, you can see the beautiful charm of her unique wedding – the blue dress is a start – and the charm of the Farm. Their wedding week began with a tubing trip and culminated in a farmhouse reception. There were guests flying in from all over the country to spend several days together. It was very important to Kate and Chris that they capture every moment. In the hands of their friends, Storymix cameras were there for all the action.
The amazing story went on behind the scenes a few weeks later. The beautiful covered bridge was washed away in the storm, and all access to Pittsfield became impossible. The owners of the farm brought in helicopters to all their guests to leave town! Most of the town was stranded for seven days.
Amazingly, the recovery has been quick. Although the bridge washed away, most of the historic beams were recovered and the rebuilding has already begun. The farm itself was spared damage and they were open for events again within a couple of weeks. Thank you so much to Kate and your lovely wedding party for filming your wedding and allowing us to share the picturesque scenery.
