Because I Cry… Wouldn’t You?

People ask me all the time “Why would you ever want to edit someone else’s wedding video? And shot on a Flip? Come on!” My answer? “Because I Cry”.

I cry every time I edit a wedding video. I know. I’m such a girl. I can’t help it. I thought it would be just the first one a few years ago. Then it happened again on the next one. And the next.

I really love watching you all get married. All of you. I love seeing you hold hands as you exchange vows. I love hearing your husbands pledge to love you forever. I love seeing your friends give you blessings. And making you laugh. I love seeing little kids running around the reception with straws stuck up their noses. Oh wait, that was my wedding. And it made me laugh. I love seeing your first dances. And those dances at the end of the night when you really let loose. It’s all memorable… the sentimental vows and the drunken escapades. It’s all part of your wedding.

And it brings back memories of my own wedding. It was a DIY extravaganza. And we loved every minute of creating our own memories. We had a choreographed first dance, similar to our So You Think You Can Dance couple, Mark and Amy.

And so I cry. I cry from joy… and a touch of sadness. You see, I don’t have a video of my own first dance. I really don’t want anyone else to ever say that.

Listen and Learn! 98% of Brides Recommend Future Brides Video their Wedding

As we’ve found from talking with well over 100 brides, most are willing to share their wedding experiences. Wedding industry marketing firm Breakthrough Marketing, Inc. surveyed 500 brides, nationwide, to learn how brides felt about wedding videos.  Their result matched closely to what we’ve heard, but also indicated some other interesting tidbits.

 

An amazing 98% of surveyed respondents said that they would recommend future brides get a wedding video.

Given this result it is surprising to note that only 29% of these respondents actually used a professional videographer, while 98% hired a professional photographer.

A Friend with a Camcorder is Better than Losing Memories Forever

 

Additionally surprising was the discovery of a major shift in attitude about the importance of a wedding video…AFTER the wedding. When asked before the wedding to list their “Top Ten” wedding services, only a little more than fifty percent of respondents placed wedding videos on the list. However, after the wedding, that percentage jumped twenty five percentage points to 75%.  Brides who didn’t have their weddings captured by anyone, made up 38% of respondent brides. An obvious level of regret may be interpreted from the fact that sixty-three percent of these brides now either somewhat or strongly recommended that future brides hire a professional videographer.

Those brides who reported having a video expressed their belief that video is better at capturing a moment in time where family come together for a unique purpose. The wedding video then becomes a piece of family history that can be shared with family members not fortunate enough to be there and for future generations like children and grandchildren.

 

So, are you going to listen to the brides that came before you?

Note: Results of this national survey, conducted by Breakthrough Marketing, Inc., are based on telephone interviews with 500 brides who were married in 2005. For results based on the total sample of brides, there is a 95% confidence factor that the margin of sampling error is plus or minus 4.75 percentage points.

Top Ten Questions about Flip Weddings (part 1)

It is always great to spend a few minutes on the phone or in person at a bridal show getting to know about the issues and concerns wedding couples face with capturing their big day on video. We’ve talked with a lot of brides and grooms while we were developing My Flip Wedding and have now started to promote our product.

So I thought it might be useful to share the top 10 questions (and our answers) that we’ve heard from hundreds of conversations.

10. Can I include photos in my video?

Not with My Flip Wedding.  Our Custom DIY Wedding Video includes an option for adding photos to your project.

9. How much extra is editing?

It’s free!  A Hollywood quality edited video is included with every My Flip Wedding package.

8. How easy is it to use the Flip camera?

Super easy.  Just hit the red button and take video.

7. Can I use a camera on my honeymoon?

Yes.  Just tell us how many weeks you want to keep one of the cameras and the ordering system will add it to your project.

6. How long will my video be?

It depends on you.  We have two options. You can use our online Storyboard and pick the scenes you want us to include, so you determine the length.  Or you can have us do it all and  we’ll create a 15-20 minute highlight video.
